
As the 2009-2010 Soccer season reached its climax in Europe, prior to the Vuvuzela dominated World Cup kicking off in South Africa, Polecam reached the UEFA Champions League Final on 22 May at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, in Madrid Spain.
Televisión de Catalunya (TV3) were commissioned by UEFA to produce the event, as well as organising the 3D transmission of the big match between F.C. Internazionale Milano and Bayern Munich.
To achieve the total 3D experience, 13 cameras were used in total with a helicopter, spidercam and steadicam joining the Polecam on and around the pitch.
The Polecam was operated by Cristian Martínez Y Juan Carlos Bergantiños of Poleshot with a two Toshiba IK-HD1E 3CCD cameras recording at 1920x1080 50i being 3D post-produced at broadcast.
The rig was configured with 4 Poles, a 3D wide head, with a fibre optic connection to the mobile unit where it was recorded in HDCAM and beamed simultaneously live by satellite.
The Polecam had the best seat in the stadium, positioned behind a goal, enabling thrilling shots through and over the net, and looking back to the cheering fans.
The Polecam and Cristian, always so subtley out of shot, did manage their moments fame when all cameras turned on them. They were seen by millions of soccer fans live around the world as the Media area was invaded by Italian fans as they celebrated Internazionale's victory!
