I've been an annual regular on this event for 6 years now with the BBC Interactive team. I normally have to shoot all the gardens alongside a regular camera crew which takes around 3 days. This year things changed a little and we only had 2 days to shoot the gardens so an extra Polecam was brought on board in the guise of Chris Taber. Welcome to my horticultural world Chris!
This was a shoot for Schwalbe, the German company that produces bicycle tyres. The Polecam operator filmed from the back of a pick-up to get some stunning shots for the client.
We did the shoot with Team Leopard Trek (riders Andy and Frank Schleck and Linus Gerdemann) during practice for the tour the France. The route we took finished at the top of the Col de Galibier, a famous Alpine pass.

Shooting the roman remains involved a lot of rough terrain, across fields and uneven ground and some of the remains were spread over quite a vast area. For the polecam this wasn't a problem and we simply removed the tripod head, with the polecam attached, from the tripod legs and carried the whole rig across the field and then reset - the polecam reset time took no longer than walking to the next location.
In the first half of May football loving Netherlands was only focused on AJAX and FC Twente. On the 8th of May both teams battled for the KNVB Cup, won by FC Twente. The Dutch commercial TV channel Veronica did a live broadcast and Thijn Teeuwissen and Edo Kuipers of polecam-operators.nl where hired for the Polecam shots.
The Polecam rigs are protected from temperature, rain and condensation using surgical protective wraps!
